Social Engineering on Kauai

Social Engineering refers to intentional efforts which manipulate popular attitudes and social behaviors on a large scale. A social engineer tries to influence attitudes, social behaviors, and resource management with targeted media messaging, influence peddling, and a strategic application of social exploitation techniques to achieve a sociopolitical agenda (1).  Social Engineering is also known as "Human Hacking".

The pesticide/GMO seed industry in Hawaii has been dynamic and relentless in it's use of social engineering techniques in pursuit of legislative indemnity, presenting misinformation to the public obfuscating truth, and as court records confirm, engage in strategic personal attacks against academic opposition(2). The goal/objective is to ensure GMO agribusiness profit regardless of environmental impacts and public health concerns.

The pesticide/GMO industry has created an advertising campaign portraying "the Maui County citizens initiative, which seeks a moratorium on genetically engineered agriculture until a study to analyze its health effects," as a ban on all farming (3). On the island of Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho is running regional  Pandora re-election ads perseverating the message "Action with Aloha." Juxtaposed with the labeling of  Kauaian's in support of pesticide buffer-zones and disclosure (Ordinance 960), as radicals, "anti's" as in anti-farming/agriculture, and "red-shirts" (4). On Kauai both sides have chosen representative colors, light blue (pro-industry) and red (pro-regulation). The choice of red as the new green was a gift to the sociopolitical puppeteers who have exploited the color reds association with socialism and communism in western culture.

It is believed that Syngenta's "Human Hacking" campaign began on Kauai in August 2013 in the Kekaha Elementary School library. The accompanying manual was titled Syngenta Frameworks: How we work and achieve our goals was discovered discarded as rubbish along with accompanying flip charts. During these meetings proctored by Sue Blaske, teachers were displaced from annual beginning of the year planning conferences in the only air conditioned building on campus for a sweltering week as Syngenta's "social puppeteers" met in the school's library identifying the "Cultural Code" of Kauai's westside community.

A communities cultural code defines a set of images, language, and beliefs that are associated with a particular set of stereotypes in our minds. These shared stereotypes are then manipulated and exploited to advance a foisted agenda on a community. The key component of the pesticide/GMO effort on Kauai is to manipulate the unique cultural nuance of a communities generational imprinted  bigotry against "haoles."  Despite a literal Hawaiian definition of "foreigner," the word "haole" has become Hawaii's equivalent racial slur to the "N" word for Caucasians.  Industries sociopolitical puppeteers have crafted an ideological message that has convinced a community that those who seek investigation, regulation, and unbiased oversight of pesticide/GMO industry ag practices are "outsiders, "anti's,""non-farmers," "hippies," and most importantly "haoles." "Haoles" attacking "local ways" and ohana. The impact and success of this covert effort has truly been Orwellian. As history has proven hate, rhetoric, and enticement are very powerful tools of influence.

It is a bitter irony that the inception off the pesticide/GMO industries covert effort which seeks to convince a community to ignore the health and environmental impacts of pesticide use and GMO agriculture on Kauai began at a public elementary school (Kekaha Elementary School) and coincided with Bill 2491 (Ordinance 960) testimony. This event and the pesticide/GMO industries unabashed financial support of legislators who willingly kowtow to their agenda characterizes the audacity of their omnipotence.

The "Top 5 Social Engineering Exploit Techniques" presented by Sue Blaske that fateful day at Kekaha Elementary School library surmised are: Gathering and Using Information, Creating a Hostile Situation, Familiarity Exploit, Get a Job There, and Reading Body Language (5). The pesticide/GMO industry is employing these techniques in their effort to influence Kauai Mayoral and County Council election outcomes. The goal is to have elected obsequious individuals that will ensure a continued lack of regulation and oversight. With less than 25% of the islands population achieving a bachelor's degree or higher, limited English proficiency, and the demise of the sugar cane industry; locating willing participants has not been a difficult task for industry puppeteers (6).  Syngenta's hand-picked candidate for Kauai County Council is Arthur Brun.  A convicted felon, alleged former crystal methamphetamine user, and Syngenta employee (7). His election campaign signs that litter the island of Kauai, have been up the longest outnumbering all other candidates. Kauai County Council candidates do not run by party affiliationRiding on a wave of bigoted ignorance, like minded pesticide/GMO seed obsequious candidates have combined in a cabal to ensure their spot at the trough.

The success of industries investments to manipulate the democratic process will be judged on November 4th, 2014 Election Day.  God Bless America.

Conspiracy Theroy

or Complacency?

On January 25, 2008 a second incident of pesticide drift occurred at Waimea Canyon Middle School.  Children and adults were once again taken to the hospital, "after inhaling a noxious odor that caused dizziness, headache and nausea" (1). The Hawaii Department of Agriculture sent misuse Inspector Glen Sahara of Hilo to W.C.M.S to lead an investigation of the incident. Without complaint, the Hawaii Office of the Ombudsman completed its own investigation, of the Department of Agriculture.

Here is the subsequent result of the Ombudsman "investigation" received via e-mail on March 31st, 2008.

In our investigation, we contacted the DOA and learned that although they did not have a Pesticide Specialist on Kauai on January 25, 2008, they were immediately notified of the incident by the Kauai Fire Department (KFD).  A representative of the DOA Pesticides Branch’s Hilo office was able to communicate by phone to the first responders, who included a KFD Captain and a representative of the Hawaii State Teachers Association.

It was determined by KFD and Department of Health (DOH) representatives that same afternoon that the source of the odor at WCS was stinkweed that had been handpicked in the field adjacent to the school.  The DOA sent a representative to Kauai on Monday, January 28, 2008 for further investigation.

The DOA followed up with Syngenta Seeds and learned that their last insecticide application prior to January 25, 2008 was on January 24, 2008 at approximately 3:40 p.m. in the field adjacent to WCS.  It was determined that the application of the insecticide Warrior had been properly made by a licensed applicator, and that according to a compass reading taken at the time of the application, the wind was blowing away from WCS at approximately 6 mph.  No other applications were made by Syngenta on the morning of January 25, 2008 that would have caused any odor or pesticide drift at WCS.

Further follow up was conducted by the DOA that included on-site visits to facilities and homes surrounding WCS.  Staff at the nearby Waimea Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Waimea Athletic Field, as well as neighboring residents, were asked about the incident of January 25, 2008, and about their own pesticide use.  It was learned that a nearby facility had sprayed approximately two ounces of Roundup in their parking area on January 24, 2008, and that some area residents also used weed killers in their yards.  However, no one reported applying any pesticides or insecticides on January 25, 2008.  Of those who were working in the area or at home on the morning of January 25, 2008, no one reported smelling any odor.  Many, however, were familiar with the odor from the stinkweed and a few stated that they had experienced headaches in the past as a result of the strong smell.

As there was no evidence of pesticide involvement in the incident of January 25, 2008, the DOA Pesticides Branch determined that no further action on this matter was warranted.  We find the actions and determination of the DOA to be reasonable and will therefore be closing our file in this case.

Sincerely yours,

What the Hawaii Office of the Ombudsman (audio file) actually did was not an investigation (2).  What they completed was a records review of the Department of Agriculture's Misuse Investigation done by Glen Sahara (KA-08-01). This received letter follows the report almost verbatim. The analyst Yvonne Faria did not interview any of the adults that went to the hospital or eye witnesses, and omitted comments of pesticide odors given by interviewed individuals living in the adjacent neighborhood that were included in Glen Sahara's report.  They also contacted the individual that filed a request with them to investigate Department of Agriculture's influenced investigation after the first incident in 2006, flippantly asking if he was one of the adults that was taken to the hospital during this Jan. 2008 incident (2).  That individual located in a classroom at the opposite end of the campus from where the 2008 drift incident occurred, did not learn of the tragic events that day until the end of the school day.  Days after the Jan. 2008 incident as part of their investigation, Department of Agriculture Misuse inspector Ann Kam found it necessary to swab sample his classroom as part of her investigation.

Conspiracy Theory

or Complacency?

11/06/06
Mid-day spraying witnessed by teachers on ag land adjacent Waimea Canyon Middle School campus (Kauai).  Foul fuel like odor/taste in the air. Students complaining of headache, eye irritation, difficulty breathing, nausea, dizziness. W.C.M.S. teacher calls Dept. of Health, referred to Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture pesticide division Ann Kam.  Told by Ann Kam that she was going on vacation and that she would send someone to the school to investigate.  Ann Kam sends Syngenta employee to school.  Syngenta employee (Michael Girod/Doug Tiffany?) came to campus and spoke with Vice Principal.  Individual was escorted around campus by Vice Principal.  Syngenta employee tells Vice Principal that Syngenta had no spray operations taking place in adjacent field (#809).  Syngenta employee suggests odor/irritant caused by Cleome Gynandra ("Stinkweed").  See video of Syngenta spray application on field #809.

11/14/06
HAZMAT called to school.  10 children taken to the hospital, 170 visited the health room as per Health Room records (Nov. 13-17, 2006).  "Principal Glenda Miyazaki could not confirm the number of students who went home that day (2)." Syngenta employees also respond to the school and again suggest odor/irritant caused by Cleome Gynandra ("Stinkweed").  A bucket of Cleome Gynandra is brought around to teachers asking them to smell the weed to confirm the genesis of odor/irritant.  Not one teacher confirms smell causing irritation and discomfort as being similar.  The Garden Island Newspaper publishes article, "Stinkweed" sends some home from Waimea Canyon School (2)."  "Syngenta official ordered the plowing under of a field bordering a school in Waimea..." (2).  Syngenta official ordered the plowing under of a previously cultivated field (see video)?  Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture summary report of incident (Jan. 8, 2007) confirms pesticide application on fields adjacent W.C.M.S. campus beginning Oct. 20, 2006.  Report states that, "On October 20, 2006 to November 6, 2006 Syngenta Seeds, Inc. applied the pesticide Eradicane to fields west of Waimea Canyon School (1)." The Jan. 08, 2007 Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture's summary report does not identify what fields Eradicane was applied to despite doing so for other applied pesticides.  Syngenta administrator Doug Tiffany has letter published in The Garden Island Newspaper titled, "Addressing odor concerns..." (2).  Eye witness testimony and video evidence contradicts Syngenta records and Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture report of no pesticide application on field #809 (field adjacent W.C.M.S. western border shown in video). Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture investigation and sampling occurs weeks after known applied pesticide(s) half life and heavy rains.  Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture generates a 1,500-page report of the incident which was purchased by the Hawaii State Teachers Association and reviewed by Dr. Lorrin Pang at the Waimea Canyon Middle School campus library.  The report was stored at the school.  The unredacted 1,500-page report went missing after Principal Miyazaki's retirement (2013).  Attempts to locate the whereabouts of the report were unsuccessful despite requests by the Hawaii State Teachers Association.

Support the County of Kauai's Ordinance 960 and those Kauai County Council Members and candidates that will fight to protect your children and Kauai nei.

"Considering the data represents air samples taken 3 yrs. after any active spraying, the air samplers including the high volume sampler were blown over and filled with rain throughout the study, Syngenta was cultivating Cleome Gynandra ("Stinkweed") during the study period; the data is frightening. You don't have to be a scientist to infer what pesticide levels were when Syngenta was actively spraying Chlorpyrifos 100yds. upwind of classrooms with children of reproductive developmental age. The 4 women teachers that were pregnant at the time of the spraying who birthed children with special needs, the 20 children taken to the hospital during acute drift incident's, the hundreds of other children that suffered through those same incident's without reprieve, and the multitude of teachers who left the school to then have a myriad of symptoms all listed on the known applied pesticide "Materials Safety Data Sheet" cease ask; what kind of person seeks to justify the poisoning of children?"

On 01/29/14 with west winds @ 15+knts. as children played outside during morning recess, our "Good Neighbor" Syngenta was applying pesticide upwind of Waimea Canyon Middle School. Lorsban is the only restricted use pesticide listed on the "Good Neighbor" log provided to the school. "Epidemiologic evidence demonstrates associations between early life exposure to pesticides and pediatric cancers, decreased cognitive function, and behavioral problems (1)". The EPA cites Lorsban as causing potential nervous system and brain damage to children. It has been banned by the E.P.A for residential use and is banned in the European Union (2). Sen. Clarence Nishihara and any other cynic that considers any voice against GMO Ag practices as emotional or fanatic need to spend time at the school (3,4). Then they'll feel the truth. This isn't a game or exercise in ego. For those at ground zero, the effects are real! Many teachers have left the school with symptomology associated with pesticide exposure without continuance once out of the environment.  We don't have time to wait for discourse, we're getting poisoned. STOP POISONING OUR CHILDREN (5)!

The above graph was compiled using the data from Table 15, page 30 of the Final ProjectReport for Kauai Air Sampling Study” , March 15, 2013 by Qing X. Li, Jun Wang Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering University of Hawaii and Robert Boesch Hawaii Department of Agriculture.  This study has been used repeatedly by opponents of Bill2491 (Ordinance 960) and journalist’s as lending “support to Syngenta’s contention that the middle school odors were from the aptly named stinkweed, not pesticides (1).” MITC represented in the graph is a target volatile natural chemical emitted by Cleome Gynandra (stinkweed).  DDT and BHCs and their persistence once released into the environment should be the lesson learned and not repeated. They were created by the same pesticide companies Bill2491 (Ordinance 960) addresses.  Chlorpyrifos, Bifenthrin, and Metolachlor are all restricted use pesticides used by the GMO Seed/Pesticide industry (e.g. Syngenta, Dow, DuPont, Monsanto).  The debilitating symptoms expressed by students and staff during incidents occurring at Waimea Canyon Middle School are listed on the "Materials Safety Data Sheet" potential health effects for each of the restricted use pesticides listed on the graph.
